PROVEN INNOVATOR

  • Originated concept, McKinney Education Foundation (MEF) to award scholarships to graduating MISD seniors, also to classroom teachers. MEF also provides 3 college advisors to assist students in attaining college scholarships from outside our community. Endowment has grown to more than $12 million resulting in  $585,000 in student scholarships and $125,000 in teacher grants in 2022. College advisors brought in an additional $24 million in scholarships from outside the community! (MEF was founded in 1992)
  • Originated concept, Serenity High – nation’s first public high school specifically for youth in recovery from substance disorders (Opened October 11, 1999)
  • Founding board member, Crape Myrtle Trails of McKinney. CMT has planted 20,000 thousand crape myrtles in the city of McKinney. For 17 years CMT has given a 1-gal. crape myrtle to every MISD 5th-grader on the Friday before Mother’s Day (2,100 plants per year).

Former President George Bush came to McKinney to congratulate the McKinney Education Foundation on its continuous achievements in growing its scholars.

Lynn stands proudly with recipients of her scholarships a couple of years back. (Lynn is actually in there. Look closely!)

Lynn presents an MEF classroom grant to Mr. Trey Wright for coding equipment for use in the Gifted and Talented classrooms.

Dr. Jack Cockrill was Superintendent and chief “encourager” as Serenity High was being planned.

Lynn proudly called out the names of all of these graduates of Serenity High in McKinney before shaking their hands.

Lynn tries out motorcycle of McKinney High’s SRO Curtis Logan (a Serenity High board member) before the Ride for Recovery event in 2019. This innovative fund-raising ride was Officer Logan’s idea!

Neil, Lynn and volunteer Mike Spiotta prepare one school’s load of Mother’s Day crape myrtles. 19 other pickups left simultaneously in the caravan to all MISD elementary schools. Excited 5th-graders had lovely gifts to plant with their mothers.

Students at Malvern Elementary prepare to take crape myrtles home to their mothers on the Friday before Mother’s Day. CMT began this annual tradition in 2007.

Students of Serenity High in McKinney, under direction of The Art House in McKinney, painstakingly crafted this beautiful sign that hangs in the entryway.
